The rules for Trick Pieces are similar to other Reversi games; however, the inclusion of a "trick-piece", which is red, sets this game apart from the others. In this game, it is possible to choose or randomly select the number of trick-pieces, 0–4 pieces.

As the game progresses, a player can place his/her own piece beside the trick-piece, and it will automatically turn over to become a black or white piece. Thus, in Trick Pieces “the action of the trick-piece becomes the next player's move”.

Moreover, the trick-piece can also change into “the sword in the stone”, which is a sword on a grey flagstone. If the trick-piece is turned to reveal the sword in the stone, it will remain as such until the end of the game. In this instance too, the action of the trick-piece becomes the move of the following player.

The turning of the trick-piece is randomly generated by the computer, so it is impossible to predict what the trick-piece will become. Therefore, players must consider many possibilities and use various strategies when playing.

These novel twists will enable players to engage in a new and exciting game. Furthermore, players of different ability can play together; it is possible to defeat a more skillful player if you use strong strategies or if luck is on your side!
