Treesurance: Help protect your trees from Nature's Fury!
We are First Lego League team 6331, the Dynamite Twisters, a home based FLL team in Alexandria Virginia. As part of the 2013 Nature's Fury challenge we had to pick a topic related to natural disasters in our community Our research on falling trees led us to create this app to help homeowners estimate the risk of a tree falling. We consulted with our City of Alexandria arborist as well as arborists from The Care of Trees to identify easy to spot risk factors. Programming of the app was done using MIT App Inventor for Android smartphones and tablets. Thanks for downloading our app!
How To Use Our App:
Walk around the tree with your Android device and answer 24 simple yes/no questions about the tree's condition. The app will also note your GPS location which can be reported to the city arborist to record the tree's location. After answering all of the questions, the app will then make a recommendation about other steps to take to protect you and your property.
